May 22nd Post

Spent the early evening hours hiking at the Minnesota Valley National Wildlife Preserve. There was literally nobody else there tonight. The trails are getting pretty overgrown, and the ticks are really bad. On the plus side there were no misquitoes.

This shot is of a stream that passes under the trail.

May 21st Post

It was a nice day today, so I thought I would try some more macro photography.

This is from the snow crab that is growing in our side yard. The white flowers combined with the thickness of the tree's foliage makes for a challenge. I am still not completely satisfied, but this is the best one so far.

May 18th Post

It's been a while since my last post. Between moving my son home form school for the summer, and business travel I was just not able to keep up with the photo per day. On the plus side, it was good to get back out with the camera.

I took this in my backyard as the sun was low in the afternoon sky. This provided a nice backlit image. I used a +2 closeup filter, and spot metered off of the flower. Then using manual mode, I slightly under-exposed the image.

Shower Rod - May 7 08

I helped my son and his roommate inspect their new apartment today. To back up the information we were putting on the form I photographed most of the problem areas. This was taken using the on-camera flash, ISO 200, F9, 1/120 sec.

Flying Monkey - 5-6-08

Today I purchased some closeup filters, so I thought I would play with them a bit. This is our flying monkey. I took the photo handheld, ISO200 70mm f/5.0 1/2 sec. You have to love VR lenses.

May 5th Photo

I've decided to take up the challenge of taking and posting a photo a day. It will be a big challenge, but hopefully will lead to better photos along the way.

This red-winged blackbird photo was taken at Murphy Hanaran Park in Savage, MN just before sunset. ISO 200, 400mm, f/9.0, 1/25 sec.

The sky clouded over about 1/2 hour before the photo was taken.
